"Of course I do." Phil didn't really have to read into it all that much. He relaxed back on the couch with a mild smile and let his free hand brush against Clint's thigh.

"I promise I won't let you hurt anyone." He put down his fork. "And I won't let you get hurt, either." Because Clint mattered just as much as everyone else. Maybe he was starting to matter a little more than everyone else, but Phil wasn't thinking too much about that for now.

"We should plan for the worst, but you need to stop expecting it, okay? We'll be fine." Because they were in this together now. He wished Clint would get that into his head.
